Starting a business today is easier than ever, thanks to tools that didn’t exist when I first began my entrepreneurial journey. One of the most powerful tools available now is ChatGPT, and in this post, I’m going to show you how to use it to start your business the right way.
My Story: Learning the Hard Way
When I built my first business, Occasions, Inc., an event management company, I had to learn everything the hard way. I was a great event planner—even had a master’s degree in it.
But I wasn’t great at running a business. I didn’t understand leadership, I didn’t price my services right, and even though my business was making seven figures, I wasn’t seeing the profits.
I was overworked, underpaid, and frustrated. That’s when I realized: I didn’t just need more clients—I needed to learn how to actually build and run a profitable business.
So I found mentors, joined business cohorts, and invested in learning. Through that journey, I discovered I wasn’t the only entrepreneur struggling with this. That’s why I built The Thomas Manor—to create a space where entrepreneurs can learn, grow, and avoid the mistakes I made. Now, I’m here to help you do the same.
Step 1: Finding Your Business Idea
The first thing you need is a business idea. And guess what? You don’t have to figure it out alone anymore.
Use ChatGPT to brainstorm business ideas based on your skills and interests. Try asking:
What are some profitable business ideas for someone with [your skill or interest]?
What business ideas are trending in 2024 with low startup costs?
For example, if you’ve worked in HR, ChatGPT might suggest resume writing services, career coaching, or HR consulting for small businesses. If you’re unsure about your strengths, just ask ChatGPT to help identify potential opportunities based on your background.
Step 2: Validating Your Idea
Once you have an idea, you need to make sure it’s something people will actually pay for.
ChatGPT can help you validate demand. Try asking:
Who is the target audience for my business idea?
What problems does my target audience face that my business can solve?
For example, if you’re starting a virtual assistant business, your target audience might be busy entrepreneurs who struggle with emails, scheduling, and content creation. One big mistake many new entrepreneurs make is assuming that just because they have a great idea, people will automatically buy.
To test your idea, ask ChatGPT:
What are people currently paying for this service or product?
What are common objections people have before buying?
Who are the top competitors in my industry and what do they offer?

Step 3: Pricing for Profit
One of the biggest mistakes new entrepreneurs make is pricing. I made this mistake in my first company—my business was making seven figures, but I wasn’t seeing the profit. I charged based on what I thought people would pay instead of considering my actual costs, time, and value.
Let’s avoid that mistake. Use ChatGPT to get pricing insights:
What’s a profitable pricing strategy for my business type?
What are common pricing mistakes in my industry and how can I avoid them?
Remember, you don’t just need sales—you need a profitable business.
Step 4: Setting Up Your Business Online
Now that you have an idea and pricing strategy, it’s time to set up your business.
Use ChatGPT to:
Generate business name ideas: Give me 10 unique business name ideas for my industry that are catchy and available as a domain.
Find the best website builder: What’s the best website builder for a beginner in [your business type]?
Create a logo: How can I create a free logo for my business?
Learn about legal steps: What are the legal steps to register my business in my state or country?
Thanks to AI-powered tools, you can launch a business faster than ever before!
